Can Hemp Oil Help With Weight Loss?

Hemp is a part of the cannabis family of plants. This highly renewable plant is a source of nutrition supplements, such as CBD oil, hemp seeds that are a dietary supplement which are rich in fiber and antioxidants as well as omega 3, omega 6, and omega 9 oil.

There is no doubt that hemp oil is beneficial as a daily supplement, but what about the claims that it may help you with losing weight? Is there anything to this claim or is it just another one of those marketing ploys, designed to take your money and mislead you?

Exploring the Truth about Hemp Oil

Let’s discuss some facts about hemp oil in order to get to the truth and the crux of the question, so that you’ll have answers that you can understand.

Hemp oil that comes from the entire plant is marketed as CBD oil and sometimes Hemp CBD Oil. This means that it comes from the stem, or the entire plant. CBD is a compound found naturally in hemp that is a cannabinoid.

CBD has received a great deal of research in the past three decades, having caught the attention of researchers around the world. CBD has shown incredible potential for relieving symptoms of many chronic conditions as well as being a pain reliever and anti-inflammatory.

CBD is currently being researched for potential use in weight-loss to help those with obesity and those who are at risk of developing type two diabetes and heart disease due to their weight.

The body has an endocannabinoid system that has receptors of two types. CB1 receptors and CB2 receptors are located in different places, typically. CB1 receptors are usually located only in the brain and CB2 receptors are located in other regions of the body. Scientists have recently learned some new information, however.

In people who are overweight and considered obese, the CB1 receptors are not always in the brain. In overweight people, there are CB1 receptors found in the fatty tissues. This is an incredible finding that has scientists looking for the links between CB1 receptors and turning on (and off) the fat building in the body. There is a link but they haven’t found it yet.

Current Claims and Their Basis in Truth (or Not)

Many people claim that CBD product can help you to lose weight by reducing the appetite. Even hemp seeds, which contain no CBD, are helpful to weight loss because they are full of fiber. This holds some truth as fiber can help you to feel fuller for longer.

If you’ve ever used marijuana, and let’s face it, most of us have used it recreationally at least once or twice in our younger days and many people use it now, either recreationally or for medical purposes. We all know about the munchies.

Marijuana makes most people want to eat a lion’s share of food. The THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) is the compound responsible for this and it’s also the little fella that makes you as high as a kite in the sky too. While this psychoactive compound will make you hungry, CBD (cannabidiol) does not.

THC binds with the CB1 receptors and unlocks them like a key. They play a role in appetite. CBD, on the other hand, binds with CB2 receptors.

There is a research study from 2018 that discusses the possibility that CB1 receptors can be antagonized to close off the receptors and control weight. CBD doesn’t deactivate the CB1 receptors, but it may influence other molecules to do so. That would reduce appetite and prevent overeating.

There have been numerous studies on rats and mice, regarding CBD use and appetite suppressing. While these studies definitely show us that there is a potential for weight-loss use, there is no conclusive data because there need to be trials conducted with humans first.

There is another study which is far more exciting and conclusive which shows that CBD can turn white fat cells into brown fat cells. White fat cells increase the risk of diabetes and heart conditions.

Brown fat burns as fuel more readily, whereas white fat stays put and is much harder to rid yourself of, ask anyone who has lost a hundred pounds and they’ll tell you it comes through much blood, sweat, and tears. If CBFD can help turn white fat into brown fat and assist the body in burning fat more efficiently, these folks will agree that it’s worth trying.

It should be noted that all of this research is still in progress. The signs are leading to it being a “yes” on CBD and hemp seeds in helping to lose weight. They will not simply melt pounds away.

You will not go to sleep fat and wake up thin. These claims by any product are shameful. You can definitely feel better and be less hungry, which will help you to stick to an eating plan and be healthier though.

You can reduce your risk of heart disease and diabetes by using CBD oil and hemp products. We do know this is possible. The antioxidant value of CBD oil, hemp oil and seeds are all excellent.

You’ll be giving your immune system a boost, you’ll be energized and CBD oil will also enhance your moods, helping you to relax and enjoy the journey of weight-loss. You might even feel like you’re enjoying yourself when you exercise.

Research Still Needs to be Expanded

There are experiments that have been conducted with great results but as it goes with experiments, scientists are often left with new questions and puzzles to solve. That is the nature of research. To get definitive answers, it could take several more years.

What we are able to say as of now is that hemp oil and CBD oil seem to have the ability to help the body work more efficiently to burn fats.

It may help to suppress the appetite in the process of burning fats as fuel more efficiently, but this is not yet conclusive. The only way you’ll likely know how it works for you is to try it and see. For now, the evidence does point in that direction.
